With that note, on November 22nd the Montreal Canadiens will retire the number of one of hockey’s greatest goaltenders of all time. During a special pre-game ceremony at the Bell Centre, lucky Montreal Canadiens tickets holders will watch as Quebec City native Patrick Roy’s No. 33 will be hoisted to the rafters, placing his jersey amongst legendary goaltenders like Jacques Plante and Ken Dryden. In 19 seasons of hockey Roy holds the record for 551 wins, he’s won two Conn Smythe Trophies, three Vezina Trophies and four Jennings Trophies, not to mention the pair of Stanley Cups he helped win for both Montreal and the Colorado Avalanche, eventually earning him a spot in the NHL’s Hockey Hall of Fame. “St-Patrick’s” No. 33 was already retired by the Avalanche in 2003, but on Nov. 22nd the gesture will historically symbolize that all is forgiven, and that Patrick Roy’s incredible career in Montreal will never be forgotten. |
