Free Pick: Los Angeles -11.5
In my opinion the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers have proven the how dominate they can be in the first game of the playoffs. The Cavs destroyed the aging Pistons, the Nuggets showed why they got Chauncey Billups and the Lakers kept playing like the best team in the league over the Jazz.
In the second half of their game against the Utah Jazz the Los Angeles Lakers struggled a bit on defense, but it wasn’t long before they were able to stop the bleeding and got back to totally out playing the Jazz on both ends of the floor.

Free Pick: Cleveland -11
The was no bigger mismatch to start the NBA playoffs this time around than the Cavs against the Pistons.
Usually when these two go head to head it is an all out battle, but the Cavs have now surpassed the Pistons by leaps and bounds. Not only are the Cavs just the better all around team hands down, but the Pistons just have absolutely no answer for LeBron James who literally scored at will in game one.

Ultimately I see LeBron James holding up the Eastern conference championship trophy, but there are a few teams in the East that could stop King James from getting back the finals.
Here is how the playoffs match ups look in the Eastern conference:
Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks
This will be a great match up! Not only is Dwyane Wade pretty unguardable at this point, but he has also inspired his team should take the Heat deep in the playoffs. The Hawks are the all around better squad, but Wade is too much to handle for any opposing team right now. He is on a mission! I expect the Heat to advance to at least the second round. Heat in six.

Free Pick: Lakers +1.50
Usually when these two teams meet in Portland the game is an instant classic!
In their last meeting the Blazers wipped the floor with the Los Angeles Lakers and a brawl almost broke out after a hard foul by Trevor Ariza put Rudy Fernandez in stretcher. Although Ariza wasn’t ejected or suspended for the foul on Fernandez because honestly it looked worse than it really was, tempers flared and the final result was another loss for the Lakers in Portland and a suspension for Lamar Odom who left the bench when it looked like a fight was about to break out.

Free Pick: Uconn -4.00
No team in the NCAA tournament thus far has been as dominant as the UConn Huskies. With an average margin of victory at about 25 points a game the Huskies the best team to bet on for the duration of the Big Dance.
In the first round they destroyed Chattanooga by 56 points, then in the second round they manhandled Texas A&M beating the Aggies by 26. Once the Sweet 16 came around the Purdue Boilmakers were the Huskies next victim as UConn ended Purdue’s upset hopes by knocking them off with a 12 point victory. Finally the Missouri Tigers were the only team standing in their way who were playing phenomenal basketball coming into their Elite Eight match up with the Huskies, but they couldn’t hang with the Big East beast and lost by seven points. Free Pick: Villanova +7.5
In my opinion, the UConn Huskies are the best team in the tournament. They have convincingly beaten every team they have faced and look to be on their way to winning another NCAA title for coach Jim Calhoun.
Although I believe that the Huskies are the best squad left standing and will win it all when it is all said and done, the North Carolina Tar Heels have played pretty damn well themselves and should be the team the Huskies face in the NCAA title game!

Free Pick: Villanova +2
Although there haven’t been many upsets in this NCAA tournament so far, I think Duke will be one of the big dogs to fall in the Big Dance.
It would be hard to argue that the Big East conference wasn’t the most competitive and talented conference in college basketball this year. Yeah, the ACC was pretty tough as usual, but the Big East has been full of NBA caliber players and solid teams.
One of the most impressive teams in the Big East that you really didn’t hear much about due to UConn and Pitt’s success this season has been the Villanova Wildcats.

Free Pick: Uconn -7
There has been no team in the NCAA tournament this March then the UConn. The Huskies may have had a rocky ending to the regular season with the loss to Pittsburgh and an early exit in the Big East tournament in the now famous six overtimes loss to Syracuse, but they have definitely come on incredibly strong in the first two rounds of the Big Dance.

Free Pick: Syracuse +1
There no more compelling game in the Sweet 16 this weekend than the Syracuse Orangemen taking on Blake Griffin and the Oklahoma Sooners. This game has everything a college basketball fan and avid sports bettor would want to see in the Big Dance.
There is the superstar appeal with the Sooners Blake Griffin. There is the underdog and somewhat of a Cinderella story with the Orangemen. And then there is the -1 point spread which shows how close the handicappers think this game will be.

Free Pick: Duke -7
These two teams have only played each other three times in this decade, but the Duke Blue Devils have gotten the best of them every time and not by just a small margin.
In each of the last three match ups between these two elite college basketball schools Duke has beaten the Texas Longhorns by at least 27 points each time they have taken the floor.

Free Pick: UConn -10
As of right now the spread is -10 in favor of the Huskies of course and to be honest I think that is giving the Aggies too much credit.
The Huskies might not be considered the best team in the country anymore after the Pittsburgh Panthers beat up on them twice before season’s end, but after their performance on Thursday against Chattanooga I am officially a believer that UConn will be this year’s National champion in college basketball.

Free Pick: Boston -4.50
Over the years there have been great match ups in the Eastern conference in the NBA, especially in the 80s and 90s, but in this decade the West kind of took over with the emergence of the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs and Lakers are still great teams that rule the West right now, but the East has started to come alive again with some young squads starting to make a name for themselves. |
