Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays: Moneyline
Free Pick: Tampa Bay Moneyline
The Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox have developed a nice little rivalry over the last couple of years, and some might find it hard to believe that Tampa has actually had Boston’s number a little bit during that time. On Thursday, they will go at it again, with a matchup of two pretty good pitchers.
Tampa sends Matt Garza to the hill to face a Red Sox team that he has had good success against. The righty is thought to have some of the best stuff on the club, with a high-90s fastball and an assortment of off-speed pitches. Still, he hasn’t completely put it together, expect in certain spot starts. He has been significantly better at home, and is the owner of a 4-1 career record against Boston. This season, he’s beaten them in one start, allowing 2 runs over 7 innings.
Boston sends well known ace Josh Beckett, who hasn’t pitched much like an ace in the last few weeks. He was hit hard at Los Angeles early in the month, and got run off the mound in his last outing against the Yankees. Beckett has made a habit of leaving fat pitches over the heart of the plate, and he’s paid dearly for it. His 13 walks against only 23 strikeouts show a lack of control on his part.
In this one, you are going to get superior value on the Tampa Bay moneyline, and with them playing at home with Garza on the mound, they are a good bet to win this game. Beckett should continue his struggles at least to some extent, and I would expect Garza to continue his brilliance against the Sox. Take the value and the home team, and watch what should be a highly entertaining game all the way through.
