Over the years there have been great match ups in the Eastern conference in the NBA, especially in the 80s and 90s, but in this decade the West kind of took over with the emergence of the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs and Lakers are still great teams that rule the West right now, but the East has started to come alive again with some young squads starting to make a name for themselves.

One of these up and coming teams in the East is of course the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics. They went from being one of the worst teams in the league to NBA champions in just one season after making some pretty big moves in the offseason. With the big three (Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, KG) still intact they will be title contenders in the East for the foreseeable future.

Not only have the Celtics gotten back to their winning ways, but there are three other teams in the East that are starting to turn heads this season with three MVP caliber superstars leading the way. First you the monster in the middle in Dwight Howard with the Orlando Magic who has transformed his team from a middle of the pack squad to Eastern conference powerhouse almost all by himself and redefined the center position. Then there is LeBron James in Cleveland who seems to be rewriting the NBA records books every time he steps out on the floor and finally you have Dwyane Wade with the Miami Heat who went from injury prone superstar to the league’s leading scorer virtually overnight.

Tonight two of the best teams in the East collide in what should be an entertaining match up between the Dwyane Wade’s Miami Heat and Paul Pierce’s Boston Celtics.

As of right now the spread is at about 4.5 points in favor of the Celtics. This will probably not be an easy win for Boston as Dwyane Wade is a virtual match up nightmare, but the Celtics are without a doubt the better all around team. Kevin Garnett will still be out of the lineup so the newly acquired Jermaine O’Neal will give the Celtics some trouble inside.

D-Wade and company were too much to handle last week in Miami for the Celtics, but I think they should cover the spread and beat up on the Heat in Boston. Wade could have one of his amazing performances again, but the Celtics defense is too good when firing on all cyclinders I expect a win out of the defending champs tonight!
