Free Pick: Uconn -7

There has been no team in the NCAA tournament this March then the UConn. The Huskies may have had a rocky ending to the regular season with the loss to Pittsburgh and an early exit in the Big East tournament in the now famous six overtimes loss to Syracuse, but they have definitely come on incredibly strong in the first two rounds of the Big Dance.

In the first round of the NCAA tournament the Huskies hammered the 16 seed Chattanooga by 56 points and kept it going in the second round beating Texas A&M convincingly by 26 points, simply said UConn is making easy work of every team in their path and I don’t see that changing when they face Purdue in the Sweet 16.

The five seed Purdue is a great team and pulled off a sweet win over a very good Washington Huskies team, but these Huskies from UConn are playing at a very high level right now and will not go down without a tough fought battle.

As of right now the Huskies are favored to win by seven points. This is once again ridiculous! The Boilermakers are a very good team, I am not trying to take away anything from them, but UConn has just destroyed teams so far in this tournament and the only team that has even the slightest chance of knocking them out of the tournament before the National championship game is the Louisville Cardinals in the Final Four. Otherwise, the Huskies will go the distance in my opinion.

Purdue is definitely going to be the toughest competition that the Huskies have faced thus far in the Big Dance, but they are not good enough to knock out the first number one seed.

The Boilermakers only really have two things going for them in the trends department:

Purdue is 5-1 in the last six games that they have been the underdog and are 4-1 in their last five games in neutral sites as the underdog.

UConn on the other hand are without a doubt the better team and have these trends going for them coming into this match up:

Huskies are 5-0 in games coming off a 20 point win (which they have done twice in a row), 5-1 in last six games at neutral sites and 4-1 after coming off a game in which they have scored 90 or more points.

Upsets are what the NCAA tournament has become famous for, but UConn will not be the first to fall. Take the Huskies here -7 over the Purdue Boilermakers.
