Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants: Spread
|
There is no doubt that this will be an exceptional football game. This matchup features two of the NFL’s most talented teams who are well rested as they are coming off their bye weeks. It is safe to say that the Giants at 3-0 are somewhat exceeding expectations as many critics believed that they were going to fall apart after losing Strahan, Mitchell and Shockey in the offseason and Umenyiora is on the injured reserve after suffering a season ending injury in the preseason. |
The Seahawks had a poor start to this season, losing their first two games but came back with an easy 38-17 victory over the Rams in week 3. They are looking to win defend their title as NFC West champions again and you can bet that they will bring their “A” game against the Giants, as they cannot afford to go 1-3.
The main reason I like the over bet is because both teams have favourable offensive matchups. Matt Hasselbeck will finally have the luxury of having two very dependable targets at the receiver position as Deion Branch and Bobby Engram are expected to make their season debuts. Even without their top two receivers, the Seahawks managed to rank 11th in yards gained and points scored. These stats would definitely have improved if Branch and Engram played. The Seahawks will be facing a powerful Giants defense that ranks 2nd in points allowed and 4th in yards allowed. However, the Giants defense proved to be quite mediocre in week 3 as they allowed 347 yards and 23 points to the Cincinnati Bengals who are now 0-4. The Giants have been quite successful offensively so far this season. They currently rank 4th in yards gained and 6th in points scored. They will be without Plaxico Burress who is serving a 1 game suspension. This may make them less of a threat offensively but the Seahawks have allowed an average of 26.7 points per game, 26th in the league.
Another reason I like this bet is because there are several trends favouring the over in this game. So far this season, the over record is 3-0 for Seattle and 2-1 for New York. Additionally over is 6-2 in New York’s last 8 home games and 24-8 in Seattle’s last 32 games on grass. A 43 point total will easily be covered in this one. Expect this to be a close, exciting, high scoring game, possibly being decided in the final minute or even going to overtime.
Prediction: New York 27 Seattle 24
