NFL Week 3 Recap
This week favorites dominated going 11-5 and Unders had a slight edge going 9-7. Four of the five underdogs won the game straight up. Our selections were 6-5 with a profit of 2.58 units. The Monday nighter really hurt us since Jake Delhomme and the Panthers were absolutely terrible as they failed to cover the large spread. Additionally, because they couldn’t score the total was under by a margin of 19 points. We were a little more aggressive releasing a total of 11 plays, including five 4* selections and we were somewhat rewarded with a bigger profit than last week. Overall, we are 9-6 ATS and up 10.44 units of profit specifically with our ATS selections in this young season and therefore we will focus more heavily on releasing ATS selections rather than playing totals. The following is a summary of the key events that took place in week 3.
New Orleans is a Super Bowl contender: This may be a bold statement considering that there are 14 weeks left in the regular season but the Saints proved that they have a balanced attack and that they can play defense in their 27-7 win over Buffalo on Sunday. Considering that Drew Brees threw for only 172 yards and that the Saints win by 3 scores and that Buffalo needed to fake a field goal for their only touchdown, the Saints definitely deserve to at least be considered the number 1 team on your power rankings list.
Detroit finally wins: We picked the Lions to cover the spread against the Redskins and not they ended up coming out with the win! Jim Schwartz said that he was happy to finally get that monkey off his back. The Lions may be at the bottom of the list in terms of power rankings but with this boost of confidence they may be a good team to play against the spread considering that they will likely be given double digits.
Brett Favre steals another victory: Some quarterbacks are able to pull off fourth quarter miracles. These are the types of quarterbacks that win Super Bowls and make it to the Hall of Fame. On Wednesday Brett Favre reminded everyone why he was one of those QBs by turning what looked like an easy sack into a 32 yard td reception to receiver Greg Lewis with 2 seconds remaining in the game.
Seven teams remain undefeated: Minnesota proved that Brett Favre may be exactly what they need to be a Super Bowl Contender with his 4th quarter magical touchdown. Denver proved that it is a dominant defensive force, still ranking first in points allowed (5.33). The Colts proved that they are still a powerhouse by trampling the Cards 28-10 in Arizona. The Giants proved that they can dominate despite having a banged up secondary in their 24-0 win over Tampa. The Saints proved that they are a balanced team as they limited Buffalo to only 7 points in their 27-7 victory. The Ravens proved that they may win the AFC North by completely annihilating the Browns 34-3. Rex Ryan’s crew proved that they are a playoff contender by defeating the Titans since their 3 wins came against 3 tough teams.
Cincinnati is a contender: The Bengals are probably one of the best looking 2-1 teams out there considering that they would be 3-0 if it weren’t for a fluky play that caused them to lose in week 1. Although Cincinnati’s offensive and defensive numbers appear to be quite ordinary they managed to defeat the Packers in Green Bay and last year’s Super Bowl champions.
