Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals

Those people who follow AFC North football understand that just about every team has a history with every other team in the division. From that, we get some great rivalries between entire cities. The Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers are an excellent example of this, and they have been involved in some history making matchups in the past.

Pittsburgh has been dominant in the series, as would be expected considering their six Super Bowl championships and stronghold on the AFC North. The two teams have been in the same division and have played twice per year in every season since 1970, excepting the strike shortened season of 1982. This is truly a rivalry between the two cities, with each being on the Ohio River and each having a baseball team in the same division.

Though Pittsburgh has gotten the better of Cincy in the rivalry, there have been moments when the Bengals have shown some fight. In 1999, the Bengals only won four games, but two of them came in a season sweep of the Steelers. Lately, things have become a little bit more competitive, with the Bengals actually making the playoffs in 2005 and facing off against the Steelers there.

3* Selection: Cincinnati +7

The Bengals continue to get disrespected despite the fact that they are 6-2 and have been the product of several big upsets this season. They defeated the Packers in Green Bay as a 10 point underdog. They defeated the Ravens in Baltimore as a 9 point underdog and again at home as a 3.5 point dog. Additionally, they beat the Steelers at home as a 4 point underdog and demolished the Bears 45-10.

This will be an exciting weeknight divisional matchup between 2 teams, Cincinnati Bengals vs Pittsburgh Steelers, that are going in opposite directions. The Steelers are leading the division at 7-3; meanwhile the Bengals at 1-8-1 have the third worst record in the league. However, this does not necessarily mean that Pittsburgh will completely blowout the opponent. After losing its first 8 in a row, Cincinnati finally got its first win against Jacksonville and managed a tie against Philadelphia last Sunday.

The last time these two teams met, steelers vs bengals, the Steelers demolished the Bengals 38-10 in week 7. Pittsburgh easily covered a 9.5 point spread and is currently favored by 10.5 in this one. The Bengals are a better team compared to the last time they played against Pittsburgh a little over 3 weeks ago. They have covered in their last 2 games against Jacksonville and Philadelphia, two very good football teams, winning one game tying the other.

ben roethlisbergerPlatinum Pick: Pittsburgh -9.5

The matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals should be an interesting one. Generally I’m not too particularly interested in betting on a 9.5 point road favourite but for this matchup is a no brainer. The bye week is exactly what the Steelers needed since they are really banged up. Ben Roethlisberger had some extra time to heal from his ailing shoulder. This means that he will be even more efficient than he has been thus far this year. The Bengals will again be without Carson Palmer, meaning that backup Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the start.
