Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens

When it comes to locking horns in the AFC North, few teams get after it more than the Steelers and the Ravens. The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the NFL’s preeminent franchises, having won six Super Bowl championships. Their most recent came this past season, when they marched through the playoffs and took down Arizona in one of the most thrilling games in recent memory.

The Baltimore Ravens relocated to Maryland prior to the 1996 season, when long time owner Art Modell uprooted the previously proud Cleveland Browns organization. The Ravens took on a new name and new colors and immediately adopted a tough defensive attitude. Led by star linebacker Ray Lewis, the Ravens won their first and only Super Bowl in 2000, taking down the New York Giants in the process.

These two teams are known to play some of the most physical games in the NFL each season. With each team being built on toughness and strong defense, it is no surprise that they often spar in cold weather to see who has the toughest, meanest bunch.

This matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens will be one of the most important games this weekend. Both teams look destined to make the playoffs, but the question is who will take the AFC North? Pittsburgh is currently in first place at 10-3 and Baltimore is only one win away. The Steelers have performed well as an underdog this season. They are 3-1, winning their last 3. Overall, they are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games as a 0.5 to 3 point road underdog. This is going to be a defensive struggle for both teams. The Steelers have the advantage of having the more experienced QB in Ben Roethlisberger. The only teams to have defeated the Steelers this season are teams with outstanding veteran quarterbacks.

The logic for this pick is very simple. You have two of the league’s best defensive teams, Baltimore Ravens vs Pittsburgh Steelers with mediocre offenses at best. Roethlisberger is playing hurt and since he’s been hurt the Steelers have generated a total of 16 points over the last 2 games. If the Steelers had exceptional trouble generating points against Cleveland and Philadelphia it is only reasonable to expect that they will have a very hard time against the Ravens.
