DJ WilliamsPremium Pick: Denver –9.5

This is a matchup between an undefeated offensive powerhouse and a struggling, inexperienced team that lost its last 12 regular season games. The only reason people should question Denver’s ability to cover the spread is due to the fact that they didn’t cover in their last 2 games. However, they faced San Diego and New Orleans, two very good football teams. Kansas City is not by any means comparable to neither the Chargers nor the Saints.

As a matter of fact, they lost 23-8 at home to the Oakland Raiders, a team that Denver demolished 41-14 in week 1 without their superstar receiver Brandon Marshall.

Denver has arguably the best offense in the league. The Broncos currently average 38 points and 432 yards per game, ranking first and second in the league in those respective categories. Jay Cutler already has 8 touchdowns and thrown for 914 yards in his first 3 games. Brandon Marshall only played 2 games and already has 24 receptions for 321 yards and 2 touchdowns. He caught 6 balls last week and averaged a very impressive 25.8 yards per reception. Denver’s running game has also been quite successful as the Broncos rank tenth in the league for yards gained on the ground. K.C. ranks 25th and 24th in yards allowed and points allowed. Denver should easily score at least 40 points on them.

Defensively the Broncos rank worse than K.C. in both categories. Denver’s weakness is clearly it’s defense, but one must keep in mind that their last two games were against two of the league’s most high-powered offenses. Damon Huard is expected to start for K.C. and Larry Johnson is coming off a strong performance in Atlanta where he rushed for 121 yards. These two factors may help give the Chiefs somewhat of a spark on offense but they will need much more help than that to keep up with the Broncos. K.C. is averaging only 10.7 points per game and 258.3 yards ranking 30th and 28th in the NFL.

Expect the outcome of this game to be quite similar to the Broncos/Raiders game in week 1 where Denver blew out Oakland 41-14. Jay Cutler will easily throw for 300 yards and another 3-4 touchdowns. The Chiefs may be able to generate some offense but not enough to cover the spread.

Prediction: Denver 41 K.C. 20
