jay cutlerPremium Pick: Denver +3

This will be an exciting Monday nighter. The Broncos and Pats are both coming off losses from week 6. Many will argue that the Pats will win because they were embarrassed against the Chargers last week and will rebound and win the game. Belichik is a great coach but no matter how good of a coach he is the reality is that his team is quite mediocre.

The Broncos may be one the league’s weakest defensive teams but they have improved as of late, allowing an average of 20 points per game in their last 2. That’s an average of 9.25 points less per game than their first four games. With Matt Cassel at quarterback, the Pats are not an offensive threat by any means. So far this season he has thrown for 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions and is averaging less than 200 yards per game. The Pats are averaging only 17.8 points per game ranking 25th in that category.

They are 3-2 because they have an easy schedule. If you compare their success to the Broncos, it becomes a lot more obvious that Denver is the better team. New England has only defeated one team that has a record of at least .500. Denver has defeated 3. New England will have to depend on its defense to shutdown Denver. I really don’t like their chances. Their defense ranks 17th in points allowed and 15th in yards allowed. These stats are quite ordinary. But when you consider the fact that they have only played one team out of five with winning record than it becomes obvious that their defense is going to have a lot of difficulty stopping the Broncos. Denver ranks 8th in points scored and 4th in yards gained. All in all, Denver is clearly a more efficient football team. Denver has the edge on all key factors related to offense, time of possession, special teams and penalties. New England’s only advantage is that they have better numbers on paper defensively. Again, this is because Denver played against much stronger opponents. Denver will win this one.
