Montreal Canadiens @ Philadelphia Flyers: Moneyline
|
The confidence of the Montreal Canadiens must be quite low after thursday night’s embarrassment versus the Bruins in Boston. Not only did the Canadiens get beat up but they have lost Mike Komisarek for a few weeks with an injury to his hand and shoulder. Tonight’s matchup will be the first time Philly has visited Montreal since eliminating them from the playoffs last spring. Carey Price will be replaced in goal by Halak since it is the second time this season he let in 6 goals in one game. |

Eventhough the Canadiens will be a little weaker on the right defensive side with the loss of Komisarek, the Flyers are hurting as well on the blueline. Darian Hatcher, Randy Jones and Ryan Parent will not be in action due to injuries. The Canadiens have been struggling so far both on the powerplay and shorthanded, while they rank 5th at 5 on 5. Simon Gagne has been on fire lately with 5 goals and 7 assists in the last 7 games played. His 4 short handed goals also ranks first in the NHL. However he might have some difficulties tonight since Daniel Briere will not be in the lineup also due to injury which should limit Gagne’s production. Look for the Canadiens to come out the game with lots of emotion and will bounce back over Thursday’s disaster.
As of late, the Detroit Red Wings have cooled down after going on a five game winning streak which has been ended by losing to San Jose and Anaheim. They ended up stopping their 2 game losing streak by giving it to the Canucks and look like they are ready for another winning streak. If the Devils have any chance in winning this one, they should hope to catch the Red Wings off guard who havent played since Sunday versus the Canucks. The Red Wings have converted on 17 of 51 opportunities (33.3%) for the best power play in the NHL. They were 3-for-5 on Sunday. Nicklas Lidstrom has 9 points in the last 11 games while Marian Hossa has 12 points in the last 8 games. Brian Rafalski will also be playing against his former team and will be looking to have a solid game defensively and on the powerplay. Since the Devils have no Brodeur and are lacking on depth, tough times are ahead for the Devils unless Kevin Weekes has a few miracles up his sleeve. The Red Wings should take this one and cover the spread.
