Free Pick: Under 44
Like the Giants/Redskins season opener, defense will be a crucial factor for both teams in this game. Expect Chicago to be much stronger defensively this season as they have a much healthier defensive corps. Last season cornerbacks Charles Tillman and Nathan Vasher, linebacker Lance Briggs, safety Mike Brown and defensive tackle Tommy Harris all missed games due to injury, leaving the Bears with a depleted secondary. The scoring equation to this game is fairly simple; the Bears solid and healthy defensive core will not easily surrender points to Peyton Manning and the Colts. One must not forget that Manning has not taken a single snap in the preseason, so he may not be 100% on target. The other side of the equation is where Indianapolis will shut down Chicago’s extremely non-intimidating offense. All in all this equation spells a game that will see less than 44 total points scored. |
