peyton manningPremium Pick: Indianapolis -1

This is a matchup featuring two teams heading in opposite directions. After starting 1-2 the Colts have won 2 straight. They demolished the Ravens, one of the league’s toughest defenses, in week 6 by a score of 31-3. The Packers started off 2-0 and then lost 3 straight. They defeated the Seahawks last week. The victory may be uplifting for the Packers as they snapped a 3 game losing streak but it was almost a gift to green Bay as they faced a team with one of the league’s worst defenses that was playing with its third string quarterback.

Peyton Manning and his offense are finally starting to gel together. They currently rank 16th in points scored. Prior to the bye week, the Colts were 1-2 as they struggled significantly on offense. They were averaging 17.33 points per game. Since the bye week they are 2-0 and averaging 31 points per game. The main reason that the Colts struggled is because Peyton Manning was recovering from two offseason knee surgeries and missed the entire preseason. Prior to the bye week Manning through 3 touchdowns and had 4 interceptions and didn’t have a rating above 100 in any of his first 3 games. After the bye week he threw 5 touchdowns, 1 interception and had a rating above 100 in both games. It seems like since the bye week he has redeveloped the chemistry he had with his offensive weapons and now the Colts may be coming back to being one of the most dominant offensive teams in the league again. The Packers have not been efficient defensively, especially with the loss of cornerback Al Harris. They currently rank 23rd in points allowed and 20th in yards allowed. If the Colts were able to generate 31 points against the Ravens, then it would be logical to assume that they can have the same kind of success against the Packers.

The Colts defensively have not been great by any means. They are still without safety Bob Sanders. Currently they rank 16th in points allowed and 17th in yards allowed. However, last game they completely shut out Baltimore. Additionally, they forced 3 turnovers against Houston and another 3 against Baltimore and in return have only turned the ball over once. Their turnover differential of +5 after the bye week has been a critical component to their recent success. The Packers have had a lot of success offensively this season. They are averaging 26.7 points per game and rank 9th in that category and 14th in yards gained. It definitely won’t be easy for the Colts to stop the Packers. It is important to note that the Packers offensive numbers are impressive. However, if you omit the games they played against Seattle and Detroit, two weak defensive teams with losing records, they are averaging 21.25 points per game. I am completely confident that the Colts will outscore the opponent.

Expect this to be an exciting offensive shootout with the Colts to come out on top. This game will be fairly similar to the Packers/Cowboys game in week 3. The Colts will extend their winning streak.
