Edmonton Oilers @ Colorado Avalanche: Moneyline
|
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off their first loss of the season last night after being shutout by the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0. The Oilers currently rank 7th in the NHL on the power play and should hope that can bring them some luck against the Avs who are in last place on the penalty kill. So far this season, the Avalanche have lost their first 3 games and rebounded to win the next three. |

Up until last night, the Oilers have been quite surprising with their defensive minded approach when considering that Ales Hemsky hasn’t been living up to his potential as of late. Towards the end of last night’s game, Hemsky was beginning to show signs of the superstar we have been seeing last year and if he shows up to play in top form tonight, he will add some scoring punch to the Oilers defensive style of play. The Oilers shutdown line played by Cole, Pisani and Moreau will have the responsibility of containing the Avalanche’s top line (Smyth, Hejduk and Stastny) who have been quite hot as of late. The last time the Oilers and Avalanche played this season it was a close one where Dustin Penner scored the game winning goal with 5.4 seconds left in regulation and Garon finished the night with 31 saves. Tonight’s game should be just as close as the last, with the Oilers coming out on top once again as long as they can contain the Avs top line and Garon has yet another solid performance.
