Pittsburgh Steelers @ Washington Redskins: Over/Under
|
This is another exciting Monday nighter featuring two of the strongest teams in the league. The reason the total is only at 37 is because both teams are defensive powerhouses. However, this season Monday night football games have been full of surprises and currently there is a profitable streak for betting the over. The over record is now 9-0-1 for MNF games this year. With a total set at only 37, the opportunity for betting the over becomes even more attractive. |

The Steelers are averaging 22.1 points per game, ranking 14th in the NFL. However, they have been more productive lately averaging 25.25 points in their last 4. The Steelers will have Santonio Holmes and most likely Willie Parker back in the lineup. It is quite obvious that Roethlisberger missed Holmes last Sunday since he only completed 13/29 passes.
The Redskins are an efficient team offensively. Jason Campbell has thrown 8 touchdowns for 1754 yards and still has yet to throw an interception. He has adapted quite efficiently to Jim Zorn’s west coast offense. Surprisingly, the Redskins are averaging 155.2 rushing yards per game, ranking second in the NFL. Either way, Washington has a solid balanced playbook that they will use to gain yards against Pittsburgh.
Under normal circumstances it would be quite understandable to expect this to be a low scoring defensive affair because both teams excel defensively. But the reality is that this is a Monday night football game and there is a trend for Monday night games to be generally high scoring games and consistently go over the total point spread this season. When combining this trend with the fact that the total is set at only 37, there appears to be little risk in making this kind of bet. Interestingly enough, when the Steelers played the Ravens in a Monday nighter in week 4 the total was set at 33.5 and a total of 43 points were scored. Expect this to be a similar type of outcome as the Steelers/Ravens game.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 23 Washington 20
